After a while, you realize that things are solved by speaking less. It is about looks, not words... It is about stances, not actions... And sometimes, it is just about being in a space...
In the past, silence made me uncomfortable. It felt like something was missing... It felt like I would miss out on something if I stopped... That is why I was always moving. My mind was constantly busy, not just my body.
But one day, something happened. The movement stopped. In that moment, something began to speak from within the silence. At first, even I did not recognize that voice. Because that voice was coming from me, not to me.
What Did "Making Space" Mean?
I tried to find the answer to this question with my mind for a long time. I read, I researched, and I went to trainings. However, some things are only understood when you experience them. Some spaces only show their meaning when you step inside them.
Making space was not just about physical room. Sometimes, it is choosing not to make a move... Sometimes, it is staying with a feeling... Sometimes, it is not trying to fix someone... Sometimes, it is simply being able to say "stop" to yourself.
As I Worked on Myself...
I realized how many things had piled up. So many roles, responsibilities, expectations, and voices... I had not made any room for myself among them. I was always doing things for others, but when I looked inside myself, I felt empty.
As I started to make space for myself, I first encountered silence. Then, my body began to speak. A tense shoulder... A stiff lower back... A tight stomach... As those areas began to expand, my inner world expanded too. Then I realized that everything I heard was actually coming from me.
What is Heard in Silence
Silence was not an empty void like I thought. On the contrary; it was actually the fullest and most intense space. Because only in silence can you hear: What you feel... What you want... What you truly say "no" to, and what you are afraid to say "yes" to...
To stay in that silence, you must first give yourself permission. Unconditionally, without excuses, and without explaining anything to anyone... Then, that voice begins to be heard: The wise one inside, the child inside, the real you...
Holding Space at Yosomind
Every space I offer at Yosomind today is a reflection of that silent space I created for myself. Because I know that I cannot truly connect with anyone without connecting with myself first.
In group classes, one-on-one sessions, or trainings... First, I hold the space. It is not crowded. It is not loud. It is not flashy at all. It is just simple, quiet, and sensitive. Because sometimes, what we need most is for someone to tell us, "You can stop now."
Silence is sometimes the answer. And making space is not an action; it is an intention. Towards yourself, slowly, and with compassion...

Elif Gokce
